The
Toce Waterfalls: Queen of the Formazza Valley
Art & Nature
Duration
¾ day.
Description
With
an impressive drop of 143m, the Toce Waterfalls are the second
highest in Italy and are a favourite destination for nature lovers.
Created by the River Toce, tributary of Lake Maggiore, the
waterfalls mark a clear division in the valley. At the top of the
falls, the Formazza Valley opens out onto a grassy plain, home to
the characteristic village of Reale.
A few miles down the valley, at Baceno, you will find the San
Gaudenzio Parish Church which is a national monument and a splendid
example of a Romanesque church with its traditional cabin-style
façade.
