Discovering the wine cellars of Ghemme Wine Tasting & Tradition Duration Half day. Description The town of Ghemme lies to the south of Lake Maggiore and has a long standing tradtion for wine production – in fact Ghemme wine is now considered as a close rival to the more well known Barolo. The wine cellars we visit have been producing wine for generations and still carry out all the stages of production in the centuries old buildings in the centre of Ghemme. Whilst learning about the wine production process, enjoy a tour around these quaint old cellars: from the wine aging in wooden barrels in the town’s old ice store, to the family’s first cellar which still contains 3 of the original special-sized Ghemme barrels and the final stages of bottling and corking. Above the cellars in the cosy and faithfully restored wine tasting rooms you can sample the delicious Ghemme wine and sample local salamis and cheese. Itinerary
